Attack at the Draft, OHL Priority Selection Day 2 Recap
Day 2 of the 2022 OHL Priority Selection presented by Real Canadian Superstore was a busy one for Attack General Manager Dale DeGray, with 12 picks to make. Saturday saw the Attack add seven more forwards, 4 more defensemen and one more goaltender to their draft pool.
The Attack opened the day by selecting Jared Langdon with the teams 4th round pick 174th overall. Langdon is a 5-foot-11, 180-pound forward out of the Quinte Red Devils program.
After a two round break, the Attack were back at the podium in round 7 using the 134th overall selection to take Ronan Campbell of the Ajax-Pickering Raiders with the 134th overall pick. Campbell is a 5-foot-11 and a half, 163-pound left-handed defensemen who had 16 points in 25 games in 2021-22.
The Attack then moved into the 8th round where they held two selections just two picks apart, selecting first with the 154th overall pick Luc Warner from the Toronto Marlboros U16 team. Warner is a 5-foot-10 and three quarters, 189-pound centre who had 8 goals and 25 assists last season. The Attack then selected Austin Baker from the Detroit Little Caesars U16 team. Baker is a 6-foot, 172-pound left winger who had 11 points in 12 games this past season.
In round 9, the Attack once again held a pair of picks selecting Zachary Major from the North Bay Trappers with pick 164 and then Dean Letourneau from the Renfrew Wolves with pick 174. Major is a 6-foot-1 and three quarters, 155-pound right handed defensemen, while Letourneau is a 6-foot-4 inch 175-pound centre. In 2021-22, Major had 13 points in 23 games , while Letourneau had 18 goals and 17 assists.
Round 10 saw the Attack take Markham Majors forward Antonio Cerqua with the 194th overall pick. Cerqua is a 5-foot-6 and a half 151 -pound centre who had 20 points in 23 games last season.
In round 11, the Attack went back to the GTHL to grab Toronto Red Wings forward Amari Sellars with the 214th overall pick. Sellars is a 5-foot-8, 156-pound centre who 17 goals and 13 assists a year ago.
Round 12 saw the Attack stay with the GTHL taking defensemen Aidan Renaud from the Don Mills Flyers. Renaud is an even 6-feet tall and 181 pound right handed shot who finished the season with 12 goals and 18 assists.
Lucky number round 13, saw the Attack take another D-man Philip Roberto from the Mississauga Senators program. Roberto another bigger body at 6-foot-1 196-pounds had 13 points this past season.
In the 14th round, their second goaltender of the draft selecting Trenton Bennett from the Kitchener Jr. Rangers. In 2021-22, he had a 3.92 goals against average, with one shutout in 15 games.
With the final pick of the 2022 draft, the Attack selected Jake Skuta in the 15th round, 294th overall. Skuta isa 5-foot-8 and a half, 149-pound centre who had 11 goals in 8 assists for the Cambridge Hawks in 21-22.
Over the two day draft, the Attack took a total of nine forwards, five defensemen and two goaltenders that will now join the teams prospect pool and receive invites to the team training camp in late August.
