Attack announce Tiley as assistant coach
The Owen Sound Attack is pleased to announce that Brad Tiley has been named the clubs new Assistant Coach and will begin his duties on Monday.
Tiley, an Owen Sound resident who served as an Assistant with the Attack in 2009/2010 will re-join the club in an expanded role. The former pro defenseman played for the Owen Sound Greys and won an OHL championship with the Sault St. Marie Greyhounds during a 3 year Major Junior career. Brad’s 18 year career in professional hockey led him to stops in the NHL, AHL, IHL, Europe and Asia. Currently, Brad operates OT Sports Conditioning and recently resigned as Head Coach of the Walkerton Hawks Junior “C” Hockey Club to re-join the Attack.
“Brad has always been a person that I have a lot of respect for.”, said Attack General Manger, Dale DeGray. “Over the last five years, Brad has accumulated a tonne of experience through his business operation working with youth and understanding how today’s athlete functions. His experience as a player is hard to match and he has honed his skill as a coach the past two years with Walkerton, as well as through his clinics. We’re thrilled to have him re-join our organization.”
The bulk of Tiley’s career was spent in the American Hockey League where he won the Eddie Shore Award in 1999/2000, which is awarded to the top defenseman. Tiley spoke with Dale DeGray regarding this position earlier this week and had a formal talk with Head Coach Ryan McGill following that initial conversation.
“We wanted to ensure this was the right fit for everybody. For the team, for Ryan and for Brad.”, said DeGray. “I fielded a lot of calls and emails and it kept coming back to Brad and the experience he has gained over the past five years.”
Brad resides in Owen Sound with his wife Nikki and children Alex and Ella. His eldest daughter Shea attends Clarkson University on a hockey scholarship and was named Co-MVP of her team and was also selected as the ECAC Rookie of the Year & also won the Goalie of the Year trophy for the Conference.
“I really enjoyed my first tenure with the team five years ago and feel that the experience I have gained during the time away has made me a better coach.”, said Tiley. “It’s an exciting opportunity and I am really looking forward to working with Ryan, Dale and the rest of the Attack staff.”
Tiley will be behind the bench next Saturday when the Attack host the Kitchener Rangers.
