ATTACK AND OTTERS IN A SHOOTOUT !
Another great entertaining night at “the Lum” Saturday night. Over 3000 fans watched their Owen Sound Attack and Erie Otters go at it for 65 minutes and then decide things in a shootout. A Shawn Szydlowski deke on Scott Stajcer and it was a 5-4 Erie win.
r
To have any hope of a playoff spot, our Attack “had” to win this game and it showed as they jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead. Steven Shipley started things slamming a Jesse Blacker rebound behind Erie netminder Ramis Sadikov at 5:21. His 23rd on a powerplay. Garrett Wilson has had a great season. Garrett made it 2-0 flipping his 35th over Sadikov at 15:53 from Marcus Carroll and Joey Hishon.
r
A five goal second period pretty much decided this game. These two hockey clubs are very evenly matched and really went at it in the second. Killing a penalty, Erie star Zack Torquato raced up the left wall before feeding Mike Cazzola for his 36th at 1:47. Grant McGee would then score twice. His 12th and 13th of the season at 6:36 and 12:03 and our Attack led 4-1. Special teams were the name of the game for Erie in this period. Having already scored shorthanded once, Szydlowski nailed his 20th of the season while killing a penalty at 14:30 and then Anthony Luciani beat Stajcer for his 35th, a PP goal, with just one second left on the clock. 4-3 Attack after two periods of play.
r
In the third, overager Zack Torquato tied the game with his 30th of the season. A breakaway goal at 8:52. 4-4 after regulation time.
r
No scoring in the 5 minute overtime period and it was off to the shootout. Joey Hishon scored first with a backhand deke. Zack Torquato scored with a wrist shot low glove side and then the Szydlowski goal most likely eliminated our Attack from any post season play.
r
Final score Erie 5 – Owen Sound 4 SO. Final shots on net were 47-24 Owen Sound.
r

r
The Kelsey’s Neighbourhood Bar and Grill Attacker of the Game was Grant McGee.
