Attack and Majors Tie at Five
The Owen Sound Attack are now 1-2-1 in pre-season play after skating to a 5-5 tie with the Mississauga St. Michael’s Major’s Thursday night at the Bayshore.
It was a tale of two games for the defending Ontario Hockey League Champions. On one hand, the Attack built up a healthy lead and reeled off three straight goals…before handing it all back to the Majors.
The Majors opened the scoring with a shorthanded marker in the first period off of the stick of David Corrente, but the Attack would jet right back three straight goals by Cameron Brace, Zach Nastasiuk and Brett Appio found the back of the net for the home team. Jordan Mayer brought the Major’s within one during the second frame, but Gemel Smith would tip a Jake Dotchin point shot home past Majors tender Taylor Edwards.
That is where the fun would end for the Attack. The Major’s reeled off three straight goals to take a one goal lead on the Attack. Riley Brace would tally two for the Majors while Sergei Kuptsov would add another. During that comeback, the Attack were required to spend seven minutes shorthanded when Brett Appio was banished for an aggressor and fighting penalty.
The Attack would tie the game up on a pretty goal by the hard shooting Jake Dotchin. Dotchin received a pass from Chris Bigras on his off hand and rifled one under the bar to draw even. And even was the way it would end for these two bitter rivals.
The Attack will play their final pre-season game on Saturday in Streetsville at the Vic Johnson arena. Tickets are available at the door.
