Sushko named to Belorrusian U20 squad
Owen Sound Attack forward Maksim Sushko has been named to Team Belarus’ competition roster for the 2017 IIHF U20 World Championships.
The 17 year old rookie from Brest, Belarus was tabbed to join to the 32 man selection camp roster earlier this week, and with the Division 1A tournament set to get underway in Bremerhaven, Germany on Sunday, Dec. 11, Sushko was officially named to the squad late Saturday evening.
One of 20 skaters and two goalies that will be representing Team Belarus in the tournament, which acts as a qualifier for the 2018 World Junior Championships in Buffalo, New York, Sushko is the 3rd youngest player on the team and one of only three Canadian Hockey League skaters to make Team Belarus.
Picked 29th overall by the Attack in the 2016 CHL Import Draft, Sushko has nine goals and four assists in 20 games for Owen Sound on the year.
Sushko and his teammates will begin their tournament by taking on France at 8:00am Eastern Standard Time on Sunday morning.
