Attack Down Hounds 3-1 on Saturday Night
The Owen Sound Attack took on the SOO Greyhounds on Saturday night at the Bayshore and sent the fans home happy registering a 3-1 victory over their Western Conference foes. Sam McCue, Tristan Delisle and Ben Cormier had goals for the Attack and Matthew Koprowski had 29 saves, while Justin Cloutier answered for the Greyhounds and Charlie Schenkel had 31 saves in the loss.
The opening period saw long stretches without a whistle with both teams taking turns creating opportunities. As play continued it felt like it was destined for a scoreless draw after 20 minutes of play, but the home side wouldn’t have any of that. Sam McCue opened the scoring 13 minutes in, when a Greyhounds shot went wide and flew into the neutral zone, where McCue had sprung behind the SOO defender and broke down the wing. As he cut to the net he saw the opening beating Charlie Schenkel five-hole to make it 1-0. The extended play continued throughout the rest of the period with neither team finding the back of the net and the first period ending 1-0 for the Attack.
The middle frame was much like the first with both teams exchanging opportunities and pinning each other for stretches at a time. Despite some valiant efforts neither side was able to tinkle the twine leaving the score 1-0 in favour of the Attack after 40 minutes.
After two low scoring periods both the Greyhounds and Attack were bound to break out and break out they did, combining for three third period goals and making the final 20 minutes exciting for those that braved the winter weather to attend the game tonight. Justin Cloutier got the SOO on the board first notching his 14th of the year after picking up a loose puck at the top of the circle. Just over a minute later, Delisle used an active stick to steal the puck from the Greyhound defender in the high slot and then beat Schenkel blocker to restore the one goal lead. The Attack would not be denied a victory on this Saturday night with Ben Cormier registering the insurance marker with 0:55 seconds remaining while on a late power play, making the final 3-1 Attack.
