Shorthanded Attack Falter Against High Power Colts
Playing without captain Colby Barlow, as he sat out for precautionary reasons, the Owen Sound Attack came flying out of the gate Friday night scoring four time in the opening period, only to see the home Barrie Colts complete the 5-4 comeback just 41 seconds into overtime.
Things started great for the Attack as they came out playing fast and taking the play to the Colts. Owen Sound was rewarded for their strong start with a pair of goals by Servac Petrovsky, though one was credited to Landon Hookey, just two minutes apart. The high powered Colts offence was not going to be kept off the score sheet however, as they quickly answered with a pair of their own, the second coming just over nine minutes after opening puck drop.
The Bears would not let the two goals faze them, as they took just over a minute to respond and reagin their lead. Owen Sound would round out the high scoring first period with just under five minutes on the clock, as they were able to skate into the intermission with their two goal-lead intact.
Period two was almost a polar opposite of the opening 20 minutes, as the coaches obviously wanted things tightened up defensively. After the teams combined for 22 shots on goal in the opening period, with 14 coming from the Attack, a total of 17 shots made it through to the net minders during period two. Of those shots, just one found its way to the back of the net as the Colts were able to pull within a goal heading into the final period.
It looked as those the Attack would be able to hold on and skate out of the Salon Arena with a big two points, but a late goal by Barrie pulled the score even. Though securing a single point, the Bears could do nothing but watch as the talent that Barrie put on the ice for overtime played keep away before ending the game and completing their comeback.
Owen Sound will need short memories as they are right back in action tomorrow night when they welcome the Kitchener Rangers to the Bayshore for a pivotal Midwest divisional showdown.
