Pat McReavy Award for Unsung Hero: Mack Guzda
Mack Guzda is the 2019/20 recipient of the Pat McReavy Award for Unsung Hero of the Owen Sound Attack. The American netminder was a workhorse for the Attack this season, playing in 51 of 62 possible games and making 1454 saves with a 24-20-7 record for the club. Guzda added two shutouts this season and recorded his first career OHL points with a pair of assists.
Attack Head Coach Alan Letang says “We selected Guz as our Unsung Hero mainly because of how much he elevated his game from the season before. He surpassed even our expectations.” This season, Guzda increased his save percentage by 22 points, going from .878 last year to an even .900 for this campaign. Letang goes on to say: “We knew we needed consistent goaltending this year if we wanted to be competitive and the work Mack put in through the summer and through the season is a testament to his character. Not only did he provide us with consistent goaltending night in and night out, he won games for us when we weren’t playing our best.”
Heading into his age 19 season, Guzda continues to climb the Attack records for most wins by a goalie with 58 and is now just 28 behind Jordan Binnington’s franchise mark of 86.
Barret Kirwin was the 2018-19 recipient of the Pat McReavy award and Aidan Dudas earned the honour in 2017-18.
