Attack Doubled Up by Battalion on Thanksgiving Monday
The Owen Sound Attack headed to North Bay for their fourth game in five and a half days in search of their third straight win. The Battalion had other ideas defeating the Attack 4-2 on the rare holiday Monday matchup. Ben Cormier and Declan Waddick had goals for the Attack, while Jacob Therrien, Ethan Procyszyn, Shamar Moses and Ryder Carey answered for the Troops.
The Attack and Battalion shook off a bit of Thanksgiving weekend turkey early in the first period and it was the Attack that were able to capitalize first, when a Battalion clearing attempt went off the skate of Ben Cormier back in front of the Battalion net. The North Bay defender attempted to cycle the puck for another clearing attempt, but Attack forward Rafik Varosyan had another idea, stealing the puck and centring it to a wide open Cormier in front. Cormier wasted no time beating Mike McIvor and giving the Attack an early 1-0 lead. The Attack used the goal as a catalyst to continue their push at the Battalion for the remainder of the period. Unfortunately, the Battalion were able to even it up with under five minutes to play in the opening frame. With Landen Hookey in the box, the Battalion were able to get their power play cycle going and got the puck to Jacob Therrien who blasted a shot past an outstretched Carter George, bringing the game to a 1-1 tie, a score that would hold until the end of the period.
After a couple of goals in the first, the middle frame saw the two teams take turns heading to the penalty box, with each team seeing two power play opportunities, with neither team being able to register the go ahead goal.
After a quiet second period for the goal light operator, the third was a contrast, with the Battalion capitalizing on a power play to start the period, thanks to Ethan Procyszyn tucking a rebound off a point shot past an outreached George, to make it 2-1 for the home side. Just three minutes later, Shamar Moses was able to replicate the first goal of the period to make it 3-1 for the Battalion. Despite the deficit the Attack continued to push and generate offensive opportunities, turning this opportunity into a power play. After losing the zone, the Bears regrouped in their own end and James Petrovski head manned the puck to a waiting Declan Waddick who got in all alone on McIvor. Waddick was able to slide the puck off the goaltenders pad to cut the Battalion lead to 3-2. Unfortunately, despite a solid effort and offensive pressure that was as close as the Attack would get. The Attack gave up one more goal on a breakaway with just under 4 minutes to play off the stick of Ryder Carey, making the final 4-2 for the Troops.
Up next for the Attack is two games in three days to finish off this week. The Attack will make the trip to the Sadlon Centre in Barrie on Thursday night to take on their highway 26 rivals the Colts. Then they will have a rare Friday night off before returning to the Bayshore for a Saturday night battle with the Western Conference leading Windsor Spitfires.
