Joe Tomato’s Weekend Preview #19 – Hitting the Road Strong

The Attack head into this weekend coming off a strong week where they achieved 6 out of a possible nine points, expanding their point streak to four games. In these last four games, the Attack have averaged 5 goals per game, showing the team’s ability to score from multiple lines consistently. Important to note this week, Captain Colby Barlow scored his 100th career goal for the Attack, joining an elite few who have accomplished such a feat in the organizations history. Defenceman Sam Sedley has tied Chris Bigras for second place in all time scoring for an Attack Defenceman. The Attack have improved their record to (23-20-3-2) with 51 points on the season. They have gained ground on the Guelph Storm now sitting only three points behind the team. While the Attack have gained on the Storm, the Western conference remains extremely competitive, with the Erie Otters keeping pace with the Attack, only one point behind.
Wednesday, February 7th, 2024, 7:00pm vs. Sarnia Sting (RogersTV – 53, CHLtv)
The struggling Sting have breathed new life this past week, winning three games in a row, with two wins coming in shootout nail biters. After selling at the trade deadline, the Sting remained competitive, led by forwards Marko Sikic (43pts), and Tyson Doucette (29pts). Sarnia’s special teams have struggled this year with the power play sitting second to last in the league (15.9%), and the penalty kill third to last (74.4%). While the Attack continue to improve upon their power play, with the percentage still rising, now sitting at 30.7% and second best in the OHL. Owen Sound’s offense continues to improve with Barlow and Burroughs each scoring 9 points in their last 4 games.
Friday, February 9th, 2024, 7:05pm @ Saginaw Spirit (CHLtv)
The Attack will leave for a short road trip beginning in Saginaw this coming Friday. The Attack will face a strong opponent in Saginaw being led by players Zayne Parekh (G:23, A:46), Michael Misa (G:24, A:31), and Hunter Haight (G:21, A:34). The Spirit also roster eight players who sit above 40 points on the season. Saginaw hosts a deep roster with all lines being highly capable of scoring. The Attack will need to rely on its depth as well as their top players to play a full 60 minutes due to Saginaw’s ability to score with all four lines. Saginaw’s special teams are similar to the Attack with each team boasting a 2nd place and a 3rd place special teams unit OS (PP :2nd, PK: 3rd), SAG (PP: 3rd, PK: 2nd). The Attack are led by Deni Goure (G:26, A:40), Ethan Burroughs (G:23, A:33), and Sam Sedley (G:8, A:41).
Saturday, February 10th, 2024, 7:05pm @ Windsor Spitfires (RogersTV – 53, CHLtv)
In the second night of a back to back, the Attack will take on the Spitfires in Windsor. The Spitfires sit last in the league, recently being overtaken by the Niagara Icedogs. The Spitfires have a strong offensive team, but struggle to keep the puck out of their net. They sit last in the league for goals against with 239 goals against this season, 29 more than the second to last Icedogs. The Attack will rely on their highflying offense to out-score the Spitfires.
