Joe Tomato’s The Week Ahead Preview #20 – Important Stretch Ahead
The Attack have battled their way up the Western conference to catch the Guelph Storm, remaining a single point behind. They have also begun to pull ahead of of Erie Otters, now sitting 4 points ahead of 7th place team in the West. The Attack are led by a strong performances from Barlow, Goure, and McCue. Barlow has extended his point streak to nine games, averaging two points per game in this stretch. Goure has strong performances, playing two games where he scored three points. McCue has his five game goal streak ended although his six game point streak remains intact. The Attack’s record this season is (24-21-4-2) which is good for 54 points on the season.
Tuesday, February 13th, 2024, 7:00pm vs. Oshawa Generals (RogersTV – 53, CHLtv)
The Attack will host the Oshawa Generals on Tuesday night as they look to get back in the win column after Saturday’s loss to the Spitfires. The Generals sit fourth in the Eastern Conference. Oshawa roster a deep team, with 8 different players currently above 40 points on the season. Some players to look out for include Calum Ritchie (G:18, A:40), Stuart Rolofs (G:27, A:22), and Dylan Roobroeck (G:16, A:32). The Generals have a strong power play and penalty kill, listed at 10th and 6th in the league respectively. The Attacks special team each rank higher than the Generals at 2nd and 4th in the same order. The Generals also take more penalties than league average which could bode well for the lethal Attack power play.
Friday, February 16th, 2024, 7:00pm @ Brantford Bulldogs (RogersTV – 53, CHLtv)
On Friday, the Attack will take a short one game road trip to Brantford to take on the Bulldogs. Brantford is among the teams in the tight race for first in the Eastern Conference. While the Bulldogs struggle at times to keep the puck out of their own net, they have no problem finding the back of the net themselves. The Bulldogs host a high flying offence led by forwards Marek Vanacker (G:27, A:34), Nick Lardis (G:29 A:21), and Jake O’Brien (G:9, A:37). The teams has scored 200 goals this season while allowing 190 against. Many of Brantford’s wins have came from very close games. This stats are contrary to their special teams, where their power play ranks near the bottom of the league and the penalty kill is one of the best.
Saturday, February 17th, 2024, 7:00pm vs. Brantford Bulldogs (RogersTV – 53, CHLtv)
The Attack will head back to the Bayshore for the second half of a back to back on Saturday night. They will take on the Knights for the first time since the tight game that saw London come out on top via shootout. The Attack will seek to take down the Knights for the first time this season. Both teams special teams remain just as potent as the last time they met. The Knights are led by Denver Barkey (G:27 A:49), Easton Cowan (G:25, A:45), and Jacob Julien (G:23 A:41). The Attack are led by Deni Goure (G:28, A:44), Ethan Burroughs (G:25, A:36), and Sam Sedley (G:9 A:43).
Record Watch
Back on the record watch, Sam Sedley is on the verge of becoming the highest scoring defenceman in Attack history. Sedley needs only one point to cement his name in Attack history to have the most points ever by an Attack defenceman, overtaking Santino Centorame.
