Harry Kazarian Most Improved Player: Sergey Popov
The 2019/20 Owen Sound Attack Harry Kazarian Award Winner for Most Improved Player is Sergey Popov.
The Russian forward eclipsed his career highs this season with 19 goals and 51 assists for 70 points in 61 games. Last season between the Attack and the London Knights, Popov put up 25 points in 47 contests.
Acquired for a sixth-round draft selection, Popov was a player that the Attack management had their eyes on. Assistant General Manager Joey Hishon says: “We knew coming from Kingston and London that Popov had all the skill in the world. It’s been amazing watching him come in and work hard every single day. You can tell how much he’s improved. He didn’t miss a single skills session and it paid off when you look at his success and how much he contributed to our success this year in Owen Sound.”
Popov attended the Winnipeg Jets rookie camp last year and is eligible to return to Owen Sound as an overaged player next season.
The Harry Kazarian Award is named after a regional football champion, Allan Cup champion and standout lacrosse player. “Kaz” did it all, and we are proud to name our most improved player award after him.
Last year, the award was shared between Igor Chibrikov and Kaleb Pearson. In 2017/18, the trophy was claimed by Trent Bourque.
