Bears Aim for Another Winning Week
Four weeks into the season, and the Owen Sound have claimed winning records in three out of the four week stretches. The Attack look to continue that streak with another three game stretch coming up this week.
It all starts with a battle of Highway 26, as Owen Sound travels to Barrie for the team’s first meeting of the season. The Colts had a slow start to their season, but have since turned things around after getting over age forward Ethan Cardwell back from the San Jose Sharks. Since Cardwell’s return, the Colts have gone 3-0-1 climbing back into the thick of the Eastern Conference race early in the season. For the Attack, they are looking to bounce back after dropping their last outing against Erie. The Bears had success last season at the Salon Arena, winning two of the three games played in the Colts barn.
Saturday has the Attack return to the confines of the Bayshore, when they welcome division rival Guelph Storm, another first meeting of the season. The Storm have struggled to this point in the season, but remain a tough opponent with skilled players throughout their lineup. It all starts upfront with players like Sasha Pastujov and Danny Zhilkin, along with Cam Allen on the backend. Saturday will also see a return of former Attack Cedricson Okitundu, who was traded to the Storm in late September. The former Bear had found early success in Guelph, having notched his first career OHL, but much like the team has since had his struggles. Owen Sound will look to continue their success form last season against Guelph, as they claimed eight win in 12 matchups, while also earning 17 of 24 available points.
The final game of the week will see a return of a fun and familiar fan engagement opportunity. The week wraps with an IPC Sunday game, and the return of the SKATE WITH THE TEAM, following the game. The action beforehand will see the Attack once again welcome an opponent they haven’t faced in over two years, in the Kingston Frontenacs. Though missing star player Shane Wright this season, the Frontenacs have put together an impressive start to the season, led by goalie Ivan Zhigalov, who has posted an impressive 2.13 goals against average and .938 save percentage, as the top ranked goalie in the OHL. It could be a goalie battle, Kingston has surrendered the fewest goals in the league, while the Attack are tied for sixth, but have surrendered the fewest goals in the Western Conference.
