Barlow Named to Leadership Group for Canada at U18 World Championships
Over the weekend Owen Sound Attack Captain Colby Barlow headlined a group of 22 players representing Team Canada at the U18 World Hockey Championships over in Basel and Porrentruy, Switzerland.
Today Hockey Canada announced the leadership group, with Barlow serving as an assistant captain for Team Canada.
This past season Barlow was named the youngest captain in Owen Sound Attack history, and the top 2023 NHL Draft prospect did not disappoint. With loftier expectations on him, Barlow showcased his elite goal scoring ability netting 46, while on a 54 goal pace had he not missed time. Along with the goal scoring, the Orillia, ON native also flashed his puck handling and vision finishing fourth on the team in assists with 33, giving him a team leading 79 points in just his second season in the OHL.
On the international stage, Barlow was apart of the Gold Medal winning Canadian entry at the 2022 Hlinka Gretzky Tournament, where he finished a point per game, an displayed his two-way game as a tremendous penalty killer, highlighted by a pair of shorthanded goals in the same game.
Barlow, along with Guelph Storm Cam Allen (C) and Andrew Cristall (A) of the Kelowna Rockets in the WHL, will be looking to lead Canada to a gold medal finish, after getting eliminated from last years tournament in the quarter-finals.
Action for the U18 World Championships gets underway Thursday April 20th, with the gold medal game set for April 30th.
