Attack vs. Spirit – OHL Western Conference Quarter Final Preview
The OHL regular season has come to a close, and playoffs matchups are set. The Attack will take on the Saginaw Spirit is the Western Conference Quarter Finals of the OHL Playoffs. The Attack will seek to prove themselves against a strong Saginaw team. This playoff matchup will mark the first ever time the Attack have played against the Spirit in the OHL Playoffs.
The Attack played Saginaw only twice this season, losing 5-4 in overtime once, and decisive 6-2 loss at home. Through these two games the Attack were led by Deni Goure (G2, A2) and Ethan Burroughs (G1, A2). During each game this season, both the Attack and Spirit relied on depth scoring to score which the Attack has struggled with at times during the regular season. Over the course of the series, special teams are expected to have a massive impact. When these two teams got together this season, the penalty box was rarely empty. During their two games this season, the teams would rack up over 84 penalty minutes. The Attack sat 2nd in the league this season for power play percentage at 30% with the Spirit sitting at 3rd, with a 25.5%. The Attack retained an 81.1% on the penalty kill for 7th in the league, where the Spirit had a 83.1% good for 3rd. The Owen Sound Attack have an advantage over the Spirit in special teams, 4.5% better on the power play, but only 2% worse on the penalty kill.
Between the two teams, Colby Barlow leads all players in goals with 40 on the season. The highest point scorer is tied at 96 between Attack forward Deni Goure, and Spirit Defenceman Zayne Parekh. The Attack’s leading defenceman is Sam Sedley who has 63 points through 64 games played. The Attack roll into this series with perhaps the best goaltender in the OHL. George landed second in the league in save percentage with a (.907 SV%). He also made more saves than any other goalie in the OHL with 1744 total saves. He has about 150 more saves than the second placed goaltender.
The schedule for the playoff series is as follows, with all games being broadcast on Rogers Grey County Channel 53 and CHLtv, and road games being carried on the radio on 560 CFOS Bear Radio.
