Attack Silent Aud, Down Rangers 5-2
The Owen Sound Attack made it two in a row with a 5-2 victory over the Kitchener Rangers on Friday night at the Aud. Colby Barlow had two goals and an assist in his return to the lineup, while Deni Goure added a goal and an assist. Servác Petrovsky had his first of the season and Jake Crawford netted his first career OHL marker. Carter George made 34 of 36 saves to record his second victory of the season.
Crawford got the Attack on the board early in the first period firing home the loose puck in front of Rangers goaltender Jackson Parsons. Jackson Stewart made a great play to get the puck down the side board and across to the Crawford for his first career OHL goal. The Attack pushed the pace and pressured the Rangers throughout the period and forced them into some late penalties, eventually leading to a 5-on-3 power play. The Attack worked the puck around, making it to who else but Winnipeg Jets prospect Barlow who buried his first of the season, making it 2-0 for the Bears.
It was once again the Attack who struck early in the second period, when Deni Goure capitalized on a neutral turnover by the Rangers that sent him in on Parsons all alone. Goure made no mistake netting his fourth of the season and increasing the Attack lead to 3-0. As expected, the Rangers pushed back and were rewarded about five minutes later when Matthew Sop quickly snapped home a rebound off a point shot to bring the blue shirts within two, at 3-1.
The third period may not have featured early scoring, but did see the Attack hit the score board first when Petrovsky finished off a nice passing play from Cedrick Guindon to restore the Attack three goal lead. Once again, the Rangers fought back when Hunter Brzustewicz cut across the top of the zone and got down into the side slot and fired a shot to the net that eluded George to bring the score to 4-2. With two minutes to go, Kitchener chose to pull Parsons in favour of the extra attacker. After a short timeout, the Rangers were able to get some puck movement, but the Attack pressured the puck and forced the play into the neutral zone. Eventually it would land on the stick of Barlow who iced the game with his second of the night into the open net, making it a 5-2 victory for the Attack.
George was a rock in the net for the Attack registering several game saving saves through the night.
The Attack will now turn their attention to Midwest Division Rivals the Erie Otters who will hit the ice at the Bayshore on Saturday night at 7pm.
