Attack Roar Back and Take Sting out of Sarina
It was a big bounce back night for the Owen Sound Attack, as they overcame a two goal deficit in the second period to beat the visiting Sarina Sting 4-3 Saturday night at the Bayshore.
After coming off a rough 9-4 loss in Guelph Friday night, Owen Sound looked sluggish out of the gate, and were forced to kill of an early penalty. The Attack used a good PK to build some momentum, and it was rookie forward Lorenzo Bonaiuto who broke the game open. A last second goal to end the period gave momentum back to Sarina however, as the teams went into the dressing rooms evened at 1.
That momentum stuck with the Sting as they scored a pair of goals within the first five minutes of the second period to gain a 3-1 lead, and it looked like the game was going to get away from Owen Sound fast.
Veteran goalie Mack Guzda was able to hold the Sting at bay and keep his team only down a pair, before a late power play rush by Nolan Seed, ended with his centring pass banking in off a Sarina skate and in an empty net, to cut the lead down to one. It was Seed again just a few minutes later, who walked down the side boards, before cutting into the middle for a shot, creating havoc on top of the Sarina crease. Power forward Stepan Machacek was in his office to bang home the loose puck, and tying the game at 3 all.
The momentum looked to have shifted to the Attack’s side, but Sarina came out hungry in the third, really pushing play toward the Owen Sound goal. It was again the penalty kill that came through for the Attack, as they were able to kill off a Deni Goure tripping penalty, before Gavin Bryant blocked a point shot and sprung Goure as he exited the box. The skilled forward, showed his moves, burying the break-away chance and giving the Attack a 4-3 lead.
Penalties filled the final minute of play, as the game ended 4-on-4 and with the Attack holding on and earning their third win of the season, and ending the month of October on a high.
The schedule gets lighter for the Attack in the month of November, with only nine games slated. The Attack return to the ice Friday night when they travel to London, before returning to the Bayshore for their first meeting of the season against the Kitchener Rangers.
