Attack Ready to Add for Future at 2022 OHL Priority Selection This Weekend
In the midst of their OHL Playoff first round series, the Owen Sound Attack are set to for a busy weekend, as they look toward future seasons at the Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection Draft presented by Real Canadian Superstore. Much like last year the draft will be held over a two day span from April 29-30 with rounds 1-3 going Friday night beginning at 7 p.m. and the remaining rounds set for the Saturday with selections starting at 9 a.m. The Attack will have a busy weekend as they hold 16 selections throughout the 15 round draft, including 4 during the first three rounds Friday night.
The Attack have built a reputation of selecting players who possess a high skill level, while also playing a fast hard-nose brand of hockey. This identity has shaped the organization into one of consistency, with General Manager Dale DeGray surely looking to add more players who fit that mold.
“It’s a similar draft as last year,” DeGray offered. “We feel that there is good depth within the first few rounds, hence why we wanted to acquire a 3rd round selection. There’s obviously the top end players of the class, but we feel that there is a strong core of players in that second tier that will be available to us. To go along with that we were happy not to move any of our later round selections as our history shows that we have had success in those late rounds.”
It will be a historic event as the Attack hold the 11th overall selection, a spot they have never picked from in franchise history, even dating back to the Guelph Platers days. The Attack have seen huge contributions from their previous 4 first round selections as Colby Barlow (2021 – 8th) and Cedrick Guindon (2020 – 10th) each set organizational records for points in their rookie seasons, while Deni Goure (2019 – 10th) led the team in scoring and Nolan Seed (2018 – 15th) was a solid two-way defender on the blue line this season.
In addition to the 11th overall pick on Friday, the Attack also hold a pair of 2nd round selections (30th and 35th) as well as the newly acquired 3rd rounder (53rd). Along with their 4 selections Friday night, the Attack will make 12 selections Saturday though have no picks in rounds 5 and 6, but hold 11 picks from round 7-15, and begin the day with a 4th round selection at 74th overall.
