Attack Lose 6-2 to Spirit
The Owen Sound Attack entered Saturday afternoon looking to take home two points in the back half of a home and home series with the Saginaw Spirit. Despite a valiant effort, the Bears could not make it happen falling 6-2 to their Western Conference rivals. Sam McCue and Declan Waddick had goals for the Attack while Nic Sima led the Spirit with 2 goals and Calem Mangone, Zayne Parekh, Sebastien Gervais and Michael Misa each had one.
The opening period of the home and home series was a back and forth affair with both teams taking their turn at controlling the play and creating opportunities on the offensive side of the puck. Unfortunately, for the Attack they could not find a way to beat Andrew Oke, while Carter George stood tall in the Attack net sending the game into the first period break tied at 0.
Period started out well for the Attack as they were able to apply sustained pressure on Andrew Oke and the Spirit, however, it was the Saginaw that was able to score first with Nic Sima beating George low blocker off the rush to make it 1-0. This turned the momentum and Saginaw seized the six minutes later with goals from Caleb Mangone and the first of Saginaws 3 power play goals by Zayne Parekh within a minute of each other. The Attack continued to battle but could not make up any ground trailing 3-0 after two periods of play.
After being assessed a late double minor, the Attack opened the final frame on the penalty kill and once again the Spirit power play was able to capitalize this time it was Nic Sima registering his second of the game to make it 4-0. The Attack did not call it quits, just 3 minutes later Sam McCue finished off a pretty passing play from Landen Hookey to get the Bears on the board. Then three and half minutes later, Declan Waddick rip home his fourth of the year over the blocker of Oke as their power play expired cutting the deficit to 4-2 with 12 minutes to play. Unfortunately, this was as close as the Bears would as Saginaw added two more goals, one on the power play to take home the second of the home and home series 6-2.
