Attack Lose Heartbreaker 3-2 to Knights
The Owen Sound Attack entered Saturday nights matchup with the London Knights looking to continue their momemtum from Friday nights win against the Sarnia Sting. With a solid 60 minute effort they did just that, but unfortunately did not get the result they were looking for losing 3-2 in heartbreaking fashion. Servác Petrovsky and Colby Barlow had goals for the Attack, while Carter George made 31 of 34 saves in the loss.
An intense first period saw both the Knights and Attack battle hard for every inch of the ice. Knights goaltender Owen Willmore and Attack goaltender Carter George were on top of their games exchanging some big saves during the opening frame. With just over 2 minutes remaining in the period the Knights broke the stalemate when Denver Barkey finished off a nice passing play from the slot to make it 1-0 London.
The tightly contested battled continued in the second period with strong goaltending once again being highlighted early and often. The Attack’s hot power play got them on the board close to the midway point of the second period when Petrovsky picked the top corner over the shoulder of Knights net minder Willmore, knotting the game at 1. Riding the momentum of the game tying goal the Attack made it 2-1 on a highlight reel passing play from Deni Goure to Colby Barlow under two minutes later. Then a goaltending duel continued between Willmore and George with the Attack heading into the final break up 2-1.
The goaltenders continued to shine in the third period, unfortunately for Attack fans, Knights forward Easton Cowan was able to get one past George to tie the game when his shot bounced off the Attack defensemen stick and over the shoulder of George. With the game looking like it was destined for overtime and the teams playing some four-on-four hockey to finished the period, the Knights forward Sam O’Reilly was able to capitalize on a miscommunication by the Attack defence and beat George blocker side with just 17 seconds to go. After an Attack timeout, the Bears won the draw and had two solid chances to tie it up, but Willmore was able to get just enough of both shots to keep them out and secure the 3-2 win for the Knights.
