Attack Fall to Spirit in a 2-1 Game
The Attack were back on home ice this past Monday night, as they faced up against the Saginaw Spirit for their third game in Round one of the 2024 Playoff season. It would be a cutthroat game and would place the Attack in a stressful position as they looked to bring a win to even the score against the Spirit. The Attack would play strong in the first half, but would fall short in a 2-1 close loss. Making his first goal of the Playoff season, Colby Barlow would find an opening for the Attack. In net for the Attack was Carter George, making 40 saves of 42 shots.
The first period would be a thrilling start to the game as both teams fought to gain possession of the puck. Saginaw would prove to be a demanding opponent as they would bring multiple shots on the Owen Sound net. Finding an opening at the last possible second during the first, Saginaw would bring their first goal, putting them in the lead.
Opening into the second period, the Attack would face many more shots on net as the Spirit would force play into the Bears’ territory. Making a valiant effort, Owen Sound defence would ring as a strong barrier between the net and the Spirit players. Throughout the second, the Attack would grow in strength as play would be brought to the front of Saginaw’s net. Sam Sedley holding onto the puck behind the blue line, would switch places with Barlow as the Attack would set up for a potential shot. Feeding the puck back to Barlow, Sedley would help to set up a beautiful one-timer shot by Captain Barlow, straight into the back of the Spirit’ net. the score would not however stay tied at 1-1 for long as the Spirit would return with another goal of their own late in the period.
Play would seemly stand still as both teams would fight hard to further their goal scores with no luck. Making the most of the remaining 5 minutes in the period, the Attack would pull their goaltender George. Trying to pick up the pace with 6 players now on the ice, the Attack would bring the fire till the bitter end. With the score remaining 2-1 Spirit, the game would finish with no further movement.
The Attack will play the Spirit again this coming Wednesday April 3rd, 2024 at the Bayshore.
