Attack Fall 7-3 to Barrie Colts
The Attack were back on the road on Thursday night for a game against the Barrie Colts. The Attack were looking to continue their upward swing, but sadly fell 7-3 at the Sadlon Arena. Leading the way for the Attack was Sam McCue with one goal and one assist, while Ben Cormier and Colby Barlow who had a goal a piece. Attack veteran Corbin Votary 8 saves on 12 shots before giving way for the Attack’s newest addition Matthew Koprowski who made 29 saves on 32 shots in his OHL debut. Attack overage defensemen Sam Sedley continued his assault on the record books, registering one assist in the game and setting a new franchise benchmark for Most Career Assists by a Defensemen.
Right out of the gate, the Attack showed promising control of the play, generating many scoring opportunities, but could not solve Sam Hillebrandt. The Attacks strong play earned them a power play opportunity a little over 6 minutes into the period. Unfortunately, for Attack fans it was the Colts who would score first when Zach Wigle sprung loose and registered Barrie’s seventh shorthanded goal of the season. The Attack continued to push, but before they knew it the Colts would score two more to take a 3-0 lead into the first intermission.
The Colts extended their lead early in the second period when the Colts Tai York carried the puck deep into the bears’ territory where he would then pass back to Blair Scott who blasted the one timer past Votary. Four minutes later, the Attack got on the board when Cormier cut across the top of the offensive zone and snap a shot past Hillebrandt. Then it was the Attack’s powerplay that went to work when Deni Goure slid the puck across to Barlow, who hurried a one-timer past the Barrie goalkeeper to bring the Bears within two at 4-2. Just over a minute later, the Colts responded with a goal of their own and extending their lead to 5-2. With under a minute left in the period, McCue used a screen infront of the Barrie net to mask his shot from the top of the circle and bring the score to 5-3 heading into the intermission.
The Attack continued to push to cut into the Barrie lead in the third period, but as the Attack did this, the Colts were able to create counter opportunities and scored on consecutive breakaway chances to bring the final score to 7-3.
The Attack will return to the Bayshore for a pair of weekend home games, first on Saturday, January 27 against the Flint Firebirds at 7pm, then a Midwest Division matinee on Sunday, January 28 at 2pm against the Guelph Storm.
