2024 Bruce Power-Owen Sound Attack Indigenous Youth Sports Bursary Awards Winners
The Owen Sound Attack and our great partners at Bruce Power are proud to announce our 2024 Indigenous Youth Sports Bursary Awards Winners.
Each year, Indigenous community members living in the Traditional Territories shared by Bruce Power are offered the chance to nominate youth for four bursaries of $750.00 each. In order to be considered for the bursaries, youth must demonstrate excellence in sport and community volunteerism while maintaining strong grades in school.
This year we four impressive candidates, each of whom has shown a dedication to their studies and provided valuable contributions to their community. This past Saturday night the Attack and Bruce Power honoured these four individuals before the game and presented them with their bursaries.
Gregor Nadjiwon
Gregor is a member of the Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation and attends St. Mary’s High School. He has participated in Nawash’s Native Child Welfare youth programming for many years as well as volunteered for many events in his community. He enjoys playing hockey and baseball.
Cameron Besito
Cameron is a member of Saugeen First Nation and participates in the Youth Life Promotions programming. He enjoys playing hockey and volleyball, which has had a positive impact on his academics.
Naawaka Roote
Naawaka is a member of Saugeen First Nation and is an active member of the Youth Life Promotions program which allows her to volunteer within her community. She plays hockey, baseball and soccer and is able to balance these activities and her schoolwork.
Tessa Linklater
Tessa is a member of the Chippewa’s of Nawash Unceded First Nation and attends St. Mary’s High School where she is excelling in her academics and plays on the school rugby team. Tessa is involved with the local Rugby Club, the Owen Sound Police Community Outreach program and volunteers at the Owen Sound M’Wikwedong Friendship Centre.
The Owen Sound Attack congratulate all four of the Bursary recipients on their fantastic years, their dedication to themselves, sport, learning, and the community. We would also like to acknowledge and thank those that nominated all of these outstanding youth, recognizing their contributions.
