A Shootout Loss In Windsor
The Windsor Spitfires defeated our Attack 4-3 on Tom Kuhnhacki’s shootout goal in Windsor Thursday night.
The Spits jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead with two Jake Carrick goals. Jake’s 20th at 8:00 was shot top shelf on Attack goaltender Jordan Binnington from Alex Khokhlachev. His 21st was a chip in after some great work by Windsor star defenceman Ryan Ellis. Ryan’s assist extended his point scoring streak to 17 games.
But there is a reason our Attack sit atop the Western Conference standings. Captain Garrett Wilson one-timed his 39th of the season by Windsor goaltender Jack Campbell after a beauty cross ice pass from Andrew Fritsch. Matt Petgrave also assisted on the goal coming at 18:16 of the first period. 2-1 after one period of play.
Now it was the Attack’s turn to score consecutive goals. Roman Berdnikov had a shot deflect off something in front of Campbell, roll up Jack’s arm and in the Windsor net for Roman’s 6th of the season from Wilson and Fritsch.
Andrew Shaw poked in his 21st of the season from Mike Halmo and Matt Stanisz at 18:04 and it was a 3-2 Attack lead heading into the third period.
Stephen Johnston with his 21st of the season at 11:26 from Jeff Brown and Kenny Ryan tied the affair sending the game into overtime and then the shootout.
After Roman Berdnikov and Ryan Ellis exchanged shootout goals, Kuhnhacki fired the game winner low stick side on Jordan Binnington off the post and in.
Final score Windsor 4 – Owen Sound 3 SO. Final shots on net were 37-35 Attack. Both hockey clubs were 0 for 2 on the power play.
The 3 Stars of the Game were:
