Attack Win 7-6 in Shootout on Erie Roadtrip
Making their second appearance in Erie over the weekend, The Attack would find themselves in a 7-6 shootout score against the Otters Sunday afternoon. Bringing a force from the Bayshore was Ben Cormier and Cedrick Guindon, both with 2 goals, Colby Barlow and and Landen Hookey with an additional one goal each. With the winning overall goal in a shootout would be Sam Sedley. In net for the Attack was Carter George, making 32 saves of 38 shots.
Making quick with puck drop, the Otters would score in less than a minute in the first period. Making a breakaway from play near the Attack’s net, Servac Petrovsky, Guindon and Barlow would barrel down the ice towards the Otters’ territory. Guindon would make a clear pass to Barlow, burying the puck into the back of the net. The Attack would see momentum in game play change in favour of their team as the otters struggled to find movement on ice. On a Power Play, Guindon would make a quick tip in goal earning the Attack their second goal. The Otters would take advantage of a slip up by the Attack, but the score would not stay tied for long as the Attack would answer back with a goal of their own. Cormier amongst the chaotic fight for the puck would find an opening for a sneaky goal. The Otters would score late in the first period tying the score 3-3.
Making way through the second period, it became apparent that physicality would play a large part of advances in the game. The Otters would open the scoring in the second period breaking the tie. Hookey would set up just outside of Erie’s blueline, to then shoot the puck into the net. Cormier would bring another blazing force to the front of the Otters’ net. Pulling a full body shot towards Erie’s net, Cormier would secure a goal for the Attack with the help of Sam McCue and Hookey. Late in the second, Guindon would find another opportunity for the Attack to strike, earning the Attack their 6th goal of night.
Although with the 2 point lead, the Attack would see the Otters bring another two goals to their side in the third period, tying the score off at 6-6 leading us into overtime. Sedley in overtime would secure a spot at the winning table for the Attack ending the final score with 7-6 Attack.
The Bears will next be taking to the Aud. in Kitchener as they face off against the Rangers, Friday March 15 at 7pm. The Attack will then travel back home to the Bayshore the following Saturday March 17th for a 7pm game against the Sudbury Wolves.
