Phillips set to go in World Championships
Owen Sound Attack defenceman Markus Phillips will suit up for Team Canada when the World Under 18 Hockey Championships get underway tonight in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
Phillips, a rookie blueliner from Toronto, was named to the pre-tournament roster after the Attack saw their season end, and has now been named to the final roster for the tournament which will go until April 24.
In 63 games for the Attack in 2015-16, Phillips scored three goals and added nine assists for a total of 12 points. Owen Sound’s first round selection (9th overall) in the 2015 OHL Priority Selection also appeared in international competition during the World U17 Hockey Challenge last November where he captained Team Canada Red.
Phillips is one of just two underage defenceman named to Team Canada for the tournament.
