Attack Claim Victory over Resilient Otters
The Owen Sound Attack held multiple leads during a Thursday night tilt in Erie, including a 4-0 lead, as the Otters proved resilient, but it was Ethan Burroughs playing hero in overtime to help the Attack avoid a tough collapse, and walk out with a 6-5 win.
It was all Owen Sound in the first period as they claimed a 3-0 lead within the first 15 minutes, with captain Colby Barlow showing off his patented “BARLOW BOMB” on the power play. Matthew Papais would then double the Attack’s lead, deflecting home a perfect back door pass from Sam Sedley, as the Attack’s offence was proving too much for the Otters to handle. Servac Petrovsky capped the first period scoring after blowing past the Erie defence before showing soft hands in-tight, flipping the puck past a sliding Otters goalie.
The second period began right where the first left off, as Deni Goure tapped home a perfect behind the back pass from Barlow to put the Attack up 4-0. Unfortunately, once gaining the lead Owen Sound found themselves on their heels, as the Otters began a comeback effort.
Netting a pair of goals Erie was able to enter the second intermission having cut the Attack’s lead in half. The intermission did Owen Sound no favours, as the Otters were able to cut the lead to a single goal just 20 seconds into period three. The four goal lead that the Attack had built was officially evaporated 8:17 into the third as an Otters point shot found it’s way through traffic to even the score at 4-4.
It looked as though the Otters had all the momentum, but just over a minute after the game was tied, Cedrick Guindon corralled a loose puck behind the net before walking out front and sniping a perfect shot just under the bar. Back in front, the Attack were looking to hold the lead right to the final buzzer. Erie was once again able to even the game as a bouncing puck found it’s way in front of the Attack net, before bing swept paste Nick Chenard.
Though scoring five goals for a second straight game, Owen Sound would need some extra hockey to walk out of Erie with two points, and in overtime it was Ethan Burroughs taking advantage of a bouncing puck, as he found himself alone in the slot. With just the Otters goalie to beat, Burroughs was able to place a perfect shot just past the blocker.
Owen Sound will return home this Saturday night for their first home game of 2023, when they welcome the Guelph Storm to the Bayshore. Tickets for the game can be purchased at the MacVicor and McCOmb Sutton Realty Attack Box Office by calling 519-371-7452 or online at tickets.attackhockey.com.
