Attack Earn First Win Over Greyhounds
The Owen Sound Attack finally get in the win column on the season, with a 5-3 victory over the visiting Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds.
“Amazing feeling,” Head Coach Greg Walters said about his first win with the Attack. “We were lead by our leadership group from the start. It was nice to see the young guys buy in and jump on board.”
The Attack got off to another quick start, as assistant captain Stepan Machacek banged in a loose puck on an early power play. It was only about six minutes later when the Greyhounds found themselves on a power play and only took 20 seconds to even the game.
The Hounds then claimed their only lead of the game, with another power play marker just after the 10 minute mark. It was Machacek though who evened the game back up for Owen Sound, with his own second power play goal. This time though it was Servac Petrovsky firing the puck off of Machacek’s skate and into the net.
During the middle frame Andrew Perrott, after serving a penalty, came out of the box and found himself in the high slot, and in great position for a perfect deflection, giving the Attack a 3-2 lead. This lead only lasted just over a minute as Marco Mignosa finished off a 2-on-1 after the Bears couldn’t finish on a rush of their own. Later, Deni Goure had a clean breakaway, but Hounds goalie Samuel Ivanov came up with a big save to keep it a one goal game.
It was around the 13 minute mark of period, when Goure and Colby Barlow had a 2-on-1 of their own. Barlow found himself on the receiving end of a beautiful sauce pass from Goure, and made a perfect chip past the goalie.
The Hounds came out hard in the third, trying to find the tying goal, but Owen Sound kept them to the outside and limited the quality chances on goalie Mack Guzda. The insurance came when Thomas Chafe forced a neutral zone turnover, and Gavin Bryant collected the loose puck for a break-away. Bryant made no mistake going five-hole to put the Attack up 5-3 with just over 10 minutes to play,
The Attack then shut the game down and were able to close out for their first win of the 2021-2 season.
“We played hard,” Captain Mark Woolley said. “I’m really proud of the boys, we played to our structure and kept them hemmed in their zone. Whenever they scored we were able to answer, and it just feels good to get that first win out of the way.”
The Attack are on the road for a pair of games in Windsor and London, Thursday and Friday next week, before returning home Saturday night when they welcome the Spitfires. Tickets are available online or at the Box Office.
