Matt Petgrave Named OHL Player of the Week
Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that Owen Sound Attack defenceman Matt Petgrave is the OHL Player of the Week for the week ending May 1. Petgrave led the Attack with three goals and added an assist for four points with a plus-minus rating of plus-3 in the final two games of the Rogers Western Conference Championship Series.
After a 3-2 win over the Windsor Spitfires in Game four last Monday night, Petgrave led the Attack to the franchise’s first Wayne Gretzky Trophy title as Western Conference Champions with a huge four-point performance as part of a 10-4 win in Game five on Wednesday night. Petgrave scored his first career hat-trick and four-point game as first star of the contest lifting Owen Sound to their first ever appearance in the Rogers OHL Championship Series where they will face the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors for the Robertson Cup beginning Tuesday night at the Hershey Centre.
Petgrave, a 19-year-old from Brampton, ON, is playing in his second OHL season and first with the Attack. He produced 37 points in 61 regular season games and has added eight points in 15 playoff games.
Also considered for the award this week was Attack forward Joey Hishon who had a goal and four assists for five points in two games producing three helpers in the Attack’s 3-2 win over the Spitfires in Game four last Monday night. Spitfires’ rookie Brady Vail netted his first career hat-trick on Wednesday despite a 10-4 loss to the Attack. In goal, JP Anderson of the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors won two games with a goals-against-average of 1.00 and save percentage of .966.
