Tale of Two Teams for Attack
Their is always games within a game, but one of those games is not supposed to be the Jekyll and Hyde game that the Attack seem to want to play through the first five games of the Ontario Hockey League season.
There were moments last night during the Attack’s 5-3 loss (EN goal) that they looked simply masterful. Too speedy for the Majors. There was also times where they looked disinterested, making mistakes which allowed the Majors to capitalize twice shorthanded.
In a rare occurence, the Attack opened up the game with the first three penalties being called against the Majors, which resulted in a goal…but not for the Attack. When an errant puck was picked off in the Majors zone, Jordan Mayer fed a speeding Riley Brace, where he capitalized on a short handed breakaway.
The Majors were not done there as they would keep the pressure on the Attack. While on the powerplay, Maple Leafs 2011 first round pick, Stuart Percy would tuck in a goal mouth scramble to give the Majors a 2-0 lead halfway through the first period.
The results for the Attack would be no better the first half of the second period. The Majors extended their lead to 4-0 after goals by Justin Rasmussen and Riley Brace, his second short handed goal of the game.
BUT, the Attack would turn it on. The boys in red managed to score three powerplay goals in just under three minutes during the last five minutes of the second period. Jarrod Maidens would pot two and Daniel Catenacci would tally the other to pull the Attack within one.
The Attack controlled much of the third period, outshooting the Majors 10-8, however; the two best chances by Gemel Smith were technically not even shots on goal. Stuart Percy would add his second of the game into an empty net to seal the deal for the Majors as they skated off with a 5-3 win.
Jordan Binnington stopped 25 of 29 shots while taking the loss and JP Anderson turned aside 35 of 28 shots earning the win.
The Attack is back in action on Saturday night when they play host to the Guelph Storm. Game time is 7:30pm. Tickets are available at the Attack Box Office or by calling (519) 371-7452. Tickets can also be purchased online at www.attackhockey.com.
