GAME SUMMARY:
In their lone game this weekend, the Winterhawks jumped on the Wenatchee Wild early. 16-year-old rookie forward Trevor Toyne’s first WHL goal gave Portland a 1-0 early advantage. Less than two minutes after the Wild tied the game, David Hoy converted a two-on-one shorthanded rush. Kyle McDonough, playing in his first game back after injury in last year’s playoffs, gave Portland a 3-1 advantage after two minutes.
Jordin St. Louis, Portland’s first-round pick in the 2024 WHL Prospects Draft, forced a turnover in the Wenatchee zone and made no mistake with his wrist shot, also netting his first-career WHL goal 2:23 into the middle frame.
Ondřej Štěbeták ended the night with 20 saves on 21 shots, including turning aside all eight Wild shots in the third period.
