Josh Davies signs NHL contract with Florida Panthers
Portland, Ore. – The Portland Winterhawks Hockey Club is proud to announce today that forward Josh Davies has signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Florida Panthers of the National Hockey League.
Originally selected by the Panthers in the sixth round, #186 overall, of the 2022 NHL Draft, Davies has posted a blistering start to his first season in the Rose City. Acquired via trade from Swift Current on August 9, 2023, Davies currently leads the Winterhawks with 19 goals in 22 games – good for a share of eighth among all WHL skaters – and ranks fourth on the team with 31 points. He sits just shy of career-best marks in goals (20), assists (20) and points (36), and paces Portland with six multi-goal games on the year.

The 19-year-old joined the Winterhawks after three full seasons and a three-game stint as a 15-year-old with the Broncos, and boasts 61 goals, 29 assists and 110 points in 171 career WHL games with both Swift Current and Portland. Davies also competed with Team Canada at the 2022 IIHF U18 World Championships, recording one assist in three games, and made his professional debut in April with the American Hockey League’s Charlotte Checkers.
Davies joins teammate Marek Alscher in the Panthers organization – both were selected in the 2022 draft, and Alscher signed his own entry-level deal in March 2023.
Davies will remain in Portland for the duration of the 2023-24 regular season and playoffs and is eligible to play either professional or junior hockey in the 2024-25 season.
