Oil Kings acquire Williams from Tigers
The Edmonton Oil Kings have acquired forward Josh Williams from the Medicine Hat Tigers in exchange for forward Brett Kemp.
Williams, a native of Langley, British Columbia, was originally selected by the Tigers in the first round (fifth overall) of the 2016 WHL Bantam Draft.
In 92 career regular season games, Williams has registered 42 points (21G, 21A), including nine goals and 21 points this season, which ranked him sixth in Medicine Hat team scoring.
Williams was a member of Team Canada, winning gold at the 2018 Hlinka Gretzky Cup hosted in Edmonton last August, and will dress as a member of Team Orr in the upcoming Sherwin-Williams CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game later this month.
President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Kirt Hill says, “We are very happy to welcome a player of Josh’s caliber to the Oil Kings organization. Josh has an extremely high work ethic and is a player who will help raise our compete level as we head down the stretch.”
The Oil Kings and Tigers will meet in short order, as Edmonton travels to Medicine Hat this Saturday, January 12 for a 7:30 PM MT start. Three more match-ups will follow this season, including Wednesday, January 16 at Medicine Hat at 7:00 PM, Monday, February 18 vs. Medicine Hat at 2:00 PM MT at Rogers Place, and Friday, March 1 at Rogers Place at 7:00 PM MT.
