Sting Keep Rolling At The SSEC
The Sarnia Sting came into Friday nights game at the SSEC looking to extend its home ice winning streak to three games following back to back wins last weekend.
The opponent on this night would be the Barrie Colts making their one and only visit to Sarnia this season.
The Sting entered play following a tough 7-2 loss in Sault Ste. Marie on Wednesday and were looking to improve upon a 3-5-0-0 record.
The first period of play would be a tight checking one with both teams holding the other to under 10 shots (8 Sarnia, 7-Barrie) and each team would trade goals in the frame sending the teams to the dressing room tied 1-1.
Justin DiBenedetto would score the first Sting goal.
The second period however would belong to the Sting and would prove to be the difference in the game.
Sarnia outshot Barrie 13-4 in the period and would outscore them 2-0 to take a 3-1 lead into the third period.
Matt Smyth would get his first goal as a member of the Sting while Jared Gomes would score the other second period goal.
In the third the teams would once again trade goals making the final score 4-2 in favour of the Sting.
Jared Gomes would score his second of the game to round out the Sting scoring.
The Sting look to make it four home wins in a row on Saturday when the Ottawa 67’s come to the SSEC. Game time is 7:30.
