Sting Continue Their Winning Ways
Sarnia, ON – Thanks to a healthy lineup and players adjusting to their new surroundings the Sarnia Sting are starting to put some wins together.
Thursday night was easily the biggest game of the season for the Sting with the 8th place Soo Greyhounds in town for a West Division showdown.
The Sting passed the test with flying colours doubling up on the Hounds by a 6-3 margin.
The turning point in the game came late in the first when the Sting trailing 1-0 exploded for 3 goals in 35 seconds.
Scoring in the outburst were Rich Clune, Jamie Fraser and Jared Gomes. The explosion gave the Sting a 3-1 lead after one and put the Greyhounds back on their heals.
In the second the team would trade goals with the Sting marker coming courtesy of rookie Daniel Lombardi giving the Sting a 2 goal cushion heading into the third.
Things would get tight briefly when the Hounds scored to make it 4-3 but the Sting would not be denied on this night as Chad Painchaud and Steve Ferry put things away giving the Sting the win.
Rookie defenceman Mark Katic had a big night quarterbacking a Sting powerplay that capatilized 4 times. Katic for his part would end up with 3 assists on the night.
The Sting look to stretch their current win streak to 3 games when they travel down the 402 to take in the London Knights Friday night before returning to the SSEC to battle the Brampton Battalion Saturday night.
