SAR 5 | KIT 3
SARNIA, ON – The Sarnia Sting came up with a big 3 points Wednesday night against the Kitchener Rangers, marking the second time this season the Sting have taken down the Rangers. With the win the Sting move to 10-5-1-0 on the season, moving back into a two-way tie with the Soo Greyhounds for the West Division lead.
The Sting had their legs going early Wednesday night as they tallied two goals in the opening period. The first coming via Brady Hinz after he fought hard to gain ground near the blue paint before banging home the rebound. Sproviero quickly added to the lead just under 2 minutes later, giving Sarnia a comfortable 2-0 threshold going into the 2nd.
Period two belonged to the Rangers as Meireles scored the only goal in the second frame. Emotions began to run wild when Kelton Hatcher took a kneeing penalty, however, despite the hostility the Sting managed to escape the frame with a 2-1 lead.
Joseph Garreffa tied the game at the 14:10 mark of the third, forcing Sarnia to put their ‘foot back on the gas pedal’. The tie was short lived as the Sting’s leading scorer Nikita Korostelev scored another highlight real goal, sniping one over the shoulder of goaltender Dawson Carty.
Shortly after Kevin Spinozzi would lead the 3-on-1 rush with Adam Ruzicka and Jordan Kyrou, eventually finding Kyrou for a tap-in, and what would be the game-winner. The Rangers tallied once more in the third but it was too little too late as Sarnia added to their one goal lead, securing the 5-3 victory.
STING NOTES:
- Nikita Korostelev tallied his 13th goal of the season on Wednesday night and extended his point steak to 3 games.
- Kyrou extended his point streak to 5 games with a goal (game winner) and two assists. Kyrou was also named the first star of the game.
