Saginaw Spirit at Sarnia Sting Game Preview – February 13th
Tonight the Sarnia Sting take on the Saginaw Spirit as the race to make the playoffs continues. Puck drop is set for 7:05 PM at Progressive Auto Sales Arena.
The Sting will play their second half of a back to back, after a hard fought 6-4 loss last night in Windsor. Despite the loss, Sarnia showed a strong level of compete and effort, starting the game off strong with two early goals. Ben Pickell opened the short-handed scoring, quickly followed by a sharp goal by Beckham Edwards. Both goals were scored on the same penalty kill.
Pickell has scored five goals in his last five games, bringing him to 18 goals on the season. The Courtice native attributes the recent success to the help of his teammates, and the chemistry they have accumulated throughout the season. In a post-skate interview this morning, the left winger expressed the importance of tonight’s game, he said, “it’s arguably one of the biggest games of the year”.
Pickell said the message going into tonight’s game is, “Staying sharp. Last night wasn’t the result we wanted, but I think we played well and can continue that momentum into tonight”.
The Sting play an unconventional schedule in the upcoming week with two weeknight games, so a familiar Friday night win could help set the tone for success.
As Pickell said, “tonight is a big opportunity for our group to hopefully get a win tonight”. Sarnia needs as many wins as they can get in the next stretch to work towards a playoff position.
Puck drop for tonight’s must-win is at 7:05 PM at Progressive Auto Sales Arena.
