Flint Firebirds at Sarnia Sting Game Preview – February 4th
The Sting will continue a game-packed week tonight at home against the Flint Firebirds. Puck drop is set for 7:05 PM at Progressive Auto Sales Arena.
Tonight will be the Sting’s fourth game in a week, which included a three-game back-to-back over the weekend. This will be the second game against Flint in the stretch. Last Friday, the Sting beat the Saginaw Spirit 4-2 at home in an exciting, fast-paced game.
The next day, the Sting travelled to Flint, where, despite scoring three power-play goals, the final score was 6-3 in Flint’s favour. Tyler Challenger scored the first two Sting goals and an assist in the third, bringing his season total to six points with the team.
On Sunday, Sarnia faced off against the Windsor Spitfires on the road. Ben Pickell scored the only Sting goal of the night in the third period. The final score was 4-1 to the Spitfires.
The Sting are looking to take the win in tonight’s rematch against the Flint Firebirds before hitting the road for their next three. In a post-practice interview this morning, Jack Van Volsen said the mindset going forward is “every game is a playoff game… It’s do or die every single night.”
The Sting are currently sitting outside of a playoff position, but are making a push to get as many points as possible in the upcoming games.
On the win over Saginaw, Van Volsen said, “We competed for the whole 60 minutes”, which has been a point of contention this season. Players and coaches have noted the importance of playing the full game and not stepping back for a period.
A win tonight will refresh the team and set them up for success as they head out on the road this weekend.
Puck drop is 7:05 PM at Progressive Auto Sales Arena for the rematch between the Sting and Firebirds.
