Royden Smith named OHL Rookie of the Week
Kingston, ON – The OHL announced their top performers for the opening week of action today, and Kingston Frontenacs rookie netminder Royden Smith was honoured as OHL Rookie of the Week.
Smith went 2-0 with a 2.46 goals-against average and .933 save percentage in his first two OHL starts.
Smith made his OHL debut on opening night Thursday in Peterborough, turning aside 44 shots as the Frontenacs beat the Petes 6-3. It was the most saves by a Frontenacs goaltender in an OHL debut in 30 years. He followed that up with 26 saves in Sunday’s home opener, a 3-2 overtime win over the Ottawa 67’s.
A 17-year-old from Toronto, Smith was Kingston’s fifth-round pick (92nd overall) in the 2025 OHL Priority Selection from the Toronto Marlboros AAA program. The 6-foot-5, 205-lb. goaltender spent the 2025-26 season with the OJHL’s Wellington Dukes, posting a record of 9-12-0-4 with a 3.79 goals-against average, .896 save percentage and two shutouts over 25 games.
