Otters Defeat Attack in Erie
Greg McKegg and his Erie Otters were too much for our Attack in Erie Wednesday night. Greg scored 4 times to lead his Otter hockey club to a 6-2 victory over our Western Conference leading Attack.
It was Brett Appio that started things for the Otters when he scored on Attack goaltender Michael Zador with his 9th of the season just 2:18 into the contest.
McKegg’s 35th at 12:21 made it 2-0 and while things looked bleak for our Attack, Roman Berdnikov answered McKegg’s goal just 20 seconds later to make it a 2-1 game.
A McKegg power play goal at 18:33 would start to put this game out of reach for our Attack. 3-1 after one period of play.
By the 6:31 mark of period two, the Otters pretty much had this game in hand. Brett Thompson and Greg McKegg goals gave Erie a 5-1 lead. Garrett Wilson scored his 36th of the season at 8:58, but that would be the final goal scored by Owen Sound.
Erie 6 – Owen Sound 2.
Final shots on net were 25 – 24 Otters. Our Attack were 0 for 1 on the power play. The Otters 2 for 3.
The 3 Stars of the Game were:
1st Star – Greg McKegg with 4 goals.
2nd Star – Shawn Sydlowski with 4 assists.
3rd Star – Mike Cazzola with 3 assists.
On the way home our Attack will stop off in St. Catherines to face the Niagara Ice Dogs Thursday, the 17th. Game time in St. Kits is 7:30 p.m. You can listen to the games in Erie and St. Catherines on BearRadio AM 560.
