Attack Force Game Seven !
Attack Force Game Seven !
Game 6 of the Ontario Hockey League Rogers Championship Series for the J. Ross Robertson Cup featuring our Owen Sound Attack and the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors, was played at the J. D. McArthur Arena/Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Center Thursday night before a sell-out crowd of 3472.
Owen Sound 3 – Mississauga 2 ! What a game these two hockey clubs gave the fans.
You just knew that our Attack would show-up after their loss in Mississauga Tuesday night. And watching our Attack during the pre-game skate, you could tell our boys were ready to go. At the end of pre-game, rookies are in charge of collecting the pucks. Jarrod Maidens, Cameron Brace and Gemel Smith were looking after the puck collection and it was great to see that there was competition over who would deposit the most pucks in the bucket and who slams in the last one !
Steve Richie has been singing our National Anthem all play-offs. Steve’s mic did not work, so he just bellowed out O’Canada and the entire crowd followed him. Game on!
The Majors dominated our Attack in the first period. They bombed Attack netminder Jordan Binnington with 16 shots, but Binner can handle this type of thing. When veteran Scott Stajcer went down to injury back in November, Jordan – who will turn 18 in July – was called on to backstop his hockey club and where are they today? The Attack were given the only penalties of the first period. Maxim Kitsyn fired his 10th of the post season from the left circle at 13:50 and his PP goal stood as the 1-0 first period lead. The two penalties and the Majors goal were keeping the Attack fans out of the game
.
Our Attack got things turned around in period two. Garrett Wilson scored his 11th beating J.P. Anderson at 9:48 on a PP. Matt Stanisz and Joey Hishon assisted. “Harry’s House Started To Rock”.
Joey scored his 5th of the post season and 1st against these Majors at 16:21. Matt and Robby Mignardi assisted. Robby’s assist kept his league leading 11 game point scoring streak going.
2-1 after two periods of play. This is great playing in May. During intermission, the fans pour out of the rink to enjoy the outdoors. The kids play in the playground at water’s edge. All enjoy a sunset over Owen Sound Bay and then back in the rink for period three.
Geoffery Schemitsch slapped a shot from the left point that went off the leg of Mississauga defenceman Brett Flemming and by J.P. Anderson at 7:27. Our Attack had been working a PP and were all over the Majors. Geoffrey’s 1st of the post season. Unassisted.
Time started to run down. Mississauga Coach Dave Cameron called a time-out at 17:27. The Majors game plan looked good. They took it to the Attack. Devante Smith-Pelly nailed his 15th at 18:49 and we had a nail biter.
The Majors could not get the equalizer and the series is off to game seven. Of note, Mississauga Captain Casey Cizikas tried to pick up the game puck as he was leaving the ice. Jay Gilbert, with the help of a linesman, made sure that he didn’t. That puck belongs to Owen Sound.
Final score Owen Sound 3 – Mississauga 2. Final shots on net 43-33 Mississauga. The Majors were 1 for 6 on the PP. Our Attack 2 for 2. Game seven Sunday afternoon in Mississauga.
In a post game ceremony, Attack General Manager Dale DeGray honoured his overage players. These boys will not be eligible to play major junior hockey next season. Attack fans can’t get enough of Robby Mignardi, Matt Stanisz and Liam Heelis. Our thanks to these young men and may they carry their team and Attack fans on to victory in game seven and then, the Memorial Cup.
The Dickies Clothing Hardest Working Player of the Game was Garrett Wilson.
The Kelsey’s Neighbourhood Bar and Grill Attacker of the Game was Robby Mignardi.
