Attack to Host 19th Annual Special Olympics Game Saturday
The Owen Sound Attack and Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR), Special Olympics Ontario are teaming up to raise awareness about the importance of grass-root programming at this Saturday’s game against the Saginaw Spirit at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre.
Saturday afternoon will feature a LTER/Special Olympics Ontario kiosk on the South Concourse, where fans can learn more about Special Olympics Ontario, the annual pass the hat during the first period TV Timeout and a ceremonial puck drop featuring Special Olympic Athletes before the game, as well as a Special Olympian singing the national anthem. There will also be public address announcements throughout the night in regards to Special Olympics Ontario.
“The Owen Sound Police Service is honoured to have been involved with the OHL Big Ticket night right from the start. The 2007 Special Olympic Ontario Winter Games which were hosted by the Owen Sound Police and held right here in Owen Sound had the pleasure of having the Owen Sound Attack as one of the premier supporters of the games. In 2006, as a fundraiser for the games the Attack and OSPS hosted the very first OHL Big Ticket game. The following year the entire OHL adopted Special Olympics and the Law Enforcement Torch Run and that relationship has continued all of these years raising so much awareness and providing financial support for our athletes. We really can’t thank the Owen Sound Attack and their amazing fans for all of these years of support!” Special Constable Jason Cranny Owen Sound Police Service.
The awareness campaign is part of the ongoing commitment by the Ontario Hockey League (OHL team), and LETR/Special Olympics Ontario to raise awareness and funds for Special Olympics Ontario.
“Special Olympics Owen Sound brings friends together for fun and fitness,” offered Laura Howlett Special Olympics Owen Sound Public Relations and Coach. “As a coach it is amazing to watch athletes learn the benefits of sticking with a skill and mastering it. As a parent, it means so much to see your child with their friends and team mates, having an ordinary good time. When an athlete goes on to compete has a personal best, a breakthrough, or even a medal, watching the pride bloom in their eyes is an incredible experience.”
“We are very proud of our long-term partnership with Special Olympic Ontario and LETR ” said Greg Hoddinott, Attack Manager of Marketing & Communications. “Special Olympics Ontario provides valuable and important programming and creates inclusive communities for people with intellectual disabilities. We are looking forward to another great year of raising funds and awareness for their amazing programing.”
Tickets for Saturday’s game are still available and can be purchased at the McVicar and McComb Sutton’s Reality Attack Box Office, online or by calling 519.371.7452.
