Neely Cup Day 4
First place game:
Oliver Bjorkstrand had a hat trick as he led Team Gaustad to first place in the Neely Cup Sunday.
The game opened with Bjorkstrand scoring twice to stake Team Gaustad to a 2-0 lead. Chase De Leo got Team Dubinsky on the board with a goal to make it 2-1, but Trent Lofthouse scored for Gaustad to regain a two-goal lead at 3-1.
Jack Flaman scored a goal late in the first period to bring Dubinsky back within one heading into the second (in the Neely Cup the teams play two 30-minute period).
Zach Peterson and Austin Gray scored for Team Gaustad early in the second to give them a 5-2 lead. Team Dubinsky kept fighting, as Tyson Predinchuk scored to cut it to 5-3, followed by a penalty shot goal from Logan Archer to make it 5-4.
With Team Dubinsky fighting for the equalizer they pulled the netminder for an extra attacker, but the comeback was thwarted when Bjorkstrand potted an empty net goal to give team Gaustad a 6-4 win and first place in the tournament.
Third place game:
In the morning game, Team Sauer took third place with a 3-2 win over Team Jones.
Sauer jumped out to an early lead on a goal by Reed Morison, but Team Jones tied it at 1-1 on a goal by Brett Clayton. Tyler Paterson and Dylan Burton scored later in the first period as Team Sauer took a 3-1 lead into the intermission.
Keegan Iverson got one back for Team Jones to cut it to 3-2, but that was as close as they’d get as Team Sauer closed the door from there.
