WINTERHAWKS WIN IN HOME OPENER 6-2 OVER SEATTLE

Cody Glass picked up a goal and an assist as the Winterhawks (2-0-0-0) took down the Seattle Thunderbirds (2-1-0-0) 6-2 in their 2017-18 home opener.

The Winterhawks got on the board first with a goal from Glass, his second goal of the season. Skyler McKenzie and Matthew Quigley picked up the assists. But Seattle was quick to respond, as Austin Strand scored just 1:16 later. The Hawks ended the first period with another Glass/McKenzie connection, this time McKenzie scoring, with an assist from Glass.

In the second, the Winterhawks extended their lead early with Henri Jokiharju picking up his first goal of the season 1:27 into the period. But again, Seattle responded tying things up with Strand potting his second of the game.

In the third, on a delayed penalty, Matthew Quigley picked up his first WHL goal on a hard shot from the blue line. The Winterhawks put things out of reach at the 13:18 mark with a power play goal from Keoni Texeira. Brad Ginnell added one late on a rebound goal off a beautiful rush from Clay Hanus. Cole Kehler posted the win, making 14 saves on 16 shots.

Portland continues their home schedule tomorrow, Sunday, October 1st at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Tickets for the season are on sale here, and single game and group tickets now on sale.
