Three Alumni Sign Pro Contracts in Europe
Portland, Ore. – The busy off-season for Portland Winterhawks alumni continues as forwards Colton Sceviour, Dominic Turgeon and Paul Bittner have all signed professional contracts to play overseas for the 2022-23 season.
Sceviour, 33, put pen to paper on a one-year contract with SC Bern in the Swiss National League, joining forces with fellow Winterhawk alumnus Sven Bärtschi who previously signed this summer. The Red Deer, Alta. native recently played for the Edmonton Oilers, recording five points in 35 games and splitting time between the NHL and their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate in Bakersfield.
Sceviour has enjoyed a 13-year professional career with the Dallas Stars, Florida Panthers, Pittsburgh Penguins and Edmonton Oilers organizations, appearing in 535 NHL games and 370 AHL games. While playing in Portland, he posted 58 points in 130 games from 2005 to 2008. Sceviour was originally selected by Dallas in the fourth round of the 2007 NHL Draft.
Turgeon, 26, signed with Ässät in the top Finnish league for the upcoming season. The Cherry Hills, Colo. native makes his way overseas after 373 professional games in the NHL and AHL, most recently playing for the Iowa Wild.
He appeared in 259 games with Portland during his junior career from 2012 to 2016. Turgeon captured a WHL Championship during his rookie season and was named team captain during his final year in the Rose City. He was originally selected by the Detroit Red Wings in the third round of the 2014 NHL Draft.
Bittner, 25, signed with the Stavanger Oilers in Norway earlier this summer after spending the last two seasons playing in Sweden and Germany. Originally selected by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the second round of the 2015 NHL Draft, the Crookston, Minn. native has since played in 190 games with their AHL affiliate before taking his talents overseas.
Like Turgeon, Bittner also spent four years in Portland from 2012 to 2016, producing 164 points in 199 games. Bittner won a WHL Championship with Portland in 2013 and helped the Hawks win back-to-back Western Conference Championships.
