Thank You Taylor, Jaydon and Clay

The Portland Winterhawks would like to thank our 20-year-olds Jaydon Dureau, Clay Hanus, and Taylor Gauthier for some incredible memories in the Rose City. The trio combined for 658 games played in the Western Hockey League.

Dureau and Hanus both graduate from the league having won a Scotty Munro Championship (2019-20) during their time in Portland and spent every game of their career with the Winterhawks. Dureau wore the “A” on his jersey for two seasons with the Winterhawks and set new career highs in goals (24) and finished fifth in team scoring this year despite missing a dozen games to begin the year while he was still playing in the American Hockey League on an amateur tryout with Syracuse. On May 21, Dureau put pen to paper on his first NHL contract, signing an entry-level contract with Tampa Bay.

Hanus represented this year’s team as a co-captain and finished his career second in all-time Winterhawks scoring by an American-born defenseman with 142 points in 257 games. This season, Hanus ranked second among WHL defensemen with 18 goals and 74 points, both career highs. The Minnesota native also played in every game during the 2021-22 season.

Gauthier, the newcomer of the bunch, joined the Winterhawks in a December trade and made an immediate impact on and off the ice. He went 24-4-0-0 with the Hawks and boasted a WHL-leading .931 save percentage to go with an impressive 2.16 goals against average with four shutouts. The backstop from Calgary, Alta. shattered the franchise’s all-time shutout record during the regular season, setting the new mark at 251:11 minutes, and is the new clubhouse leader in playoff save percentage (.937).
