The Story:
Marek Alscher’s eighth goal of the year gave Portland (36-15-2-3) life in the second period, but two Carter Streek goals and 30 Dawson Cowan saves guided Spokane (12-36-3-4) to a 4-1 win on Friday.
A back-and-forth first tilted in Spokane’s favor late in the frame as Kooper Gizowski and Streek struck twice in the final three minutes to take a 2-0 lead into the second stanza. Alscher dampened a bit of the hosts’ momentum with his goal midway through the second – a long-range wrister that snuck through a sea of bodies – but the Chiefs picked back up with another two tallies from Ty Cheveldayoff and a second from Streek before the end of the second 20 minutes.
Portland pushed in the third but Cowan kept the door closed as Spokane held on for a 4-1 win. The Winterhawks are back in action in Seattle tomorrow at 6:00 P.M. and the game will be broadcast on Portland’s CW.
QUOTE OF THE NIGHT presented by BBF TECHNOLOGIES:
“I think the most important thing for us is to stay up and keep everything positive. It’s important to play our game and get back to what we want to do, produce how we want and stick with it.”
