Special teams sink Hawks on Saturday
Robbie Fromm-Delorme struck early for the Hawks, but the Thunderbirds roared back with three PPG’s to take a 5-1 win at the VMC on Saturday.

The Story:
Reid Schaefer scored twice and Kevin Korchinski picked up three assists as the Thunderbirds posted five unanswered goals to top the Winterhawks 5-1 on Saturday.
Portland netminder Taylor Gauthier stopped 32 of 37 shots on goal in what was just his first loss as a Winterhawk.
Seattle’s special teams were key as the Thunderbirds converted on 50% of their power plays and killed four of five Portland power plays.
Following a five-minute major penalty assessed to Seattle’s Matt Rempe, Portland converted late in the first period when Robbie Fromm-Delorme deflected a Ryder Thompson blast from the point for an early Hawks lead. Fromm-Delorme now boasts four goals in his last two games after posting a hat-trick on Friday.
From there, though, it was all Thunderbirds as they rattled off three goals in seven minutes en route to a four-goal second period. Jared Davidson struck on the power play just under six minutes in, followed by goals a minute apart from Reid Schaefer and Lukas Svejkovsky. Before the second intermission, Lucas Ciona made it a 4-1 game as Kevin Korchinski picked up his third helper of the night. Capping things off in the third, Reid Schaefer made it a double with a shorthanded strike at 2:23.
The Hawks hit the ice again in less than 24 hours to wrap up the weekend with a home matchup against Spokane. Puck drop is at 5 p.m. for that tilt.
