What can the Winterhawks take from last week’s games and implement to have success tonight?
Piece it all together.
Last Thursday the team’s blazing start against Tri-City played a pivotal role in them earning a point. Saturday, it was their resiliency after a suboptimal start and Sunday, it was a great first two periods. The overwhelming positive here is that the team showed a little bit of everything en route to earning five out of six points. Undoubtedly in due time they will put it all together for a complete, 60-minute team effort win and what better time to do so than with the only (statistically) better team coming to their house?
What HAS to happen for a Portland win?
Portland’s scoring has to come to play.
The talk of the Western Hockey League right now is that in three games the Everett Silvertips have allowed a grand total of zero goals. Yes, you read that right. And as cliche and simplistic as it is, you can’t win if you don’t score. Calgary Flames prospect Dustin Wolf has denied all 70 shots seen in his three starts for the Silvertips and is quickly climbing his way to the top of the all-time league shutouts list.
How do they score?
Get shots on.
Everett’s defense in front of Wolf is allowing just over 23 shots a game. 23 ranks as the fewest allowed by any WHL team to play a game thus far this season. To further, they’re only allowing an average of five shots on goal in the first period. If Portland can come out with some jump and potentially take control early, that could be a massive determining factor for how the rest of the night goes.
Fans can catch the action online tonight on the new WHL Live on CHL TV platform all in HD, and listen live on the Winterhawks Radio Network presented by Toyota.
