Hawks in the Community: June 2023
Throughout the summer, Winterhawks.com will feature monthly recaps of the organization’s efforts to connect with and support the greater Portland community, as well as a look ahead at what’s to come. It may be the offseason for hockey, but we’re proud to be a year-round staple of the Rose City and can’t wait to see you all at an upcoming event!
Portland Timbers and Thorns Career Expo
The Hawks closed out the end of May by attending the Portland Timbers and Thorns Career Expo on May 31st at Providence Park, where we spoke with local college students and enlightened them on what it’s like to work in sports. Thank you to the Timbers and Thorns for hosting us and to the students who came by!
Juneteenth Parade and Festival
The Hawks kicked off their June events by attending the Juneteenth Oregon 2023 Parade and Festival from June 17-18. Juneteenth annually marks the celebration of the end of slavery in the United States, and we were proud to participate in this year’s festival while learning more about the history and significance of the holiday. Thank you to the Juneteenth Oregon staff for hosting us this year – we’re already looking forward to next year’s event!

On June 24, we visited our community partners at the Oregon Zoo and participated in their annual Member Night. Our staff was able to mingle with Oregon Zoo staff, kids, and families, and of course, we got to visit the animals too. Kids in attendance were able to win Winterhawks prizes and, most importantly, learn about hockey! We are very grateful for our continued partnership with the Oregon Zoo and are looking forward to participating in more events in the future.
What’s Next?
The Winterhawks have three events in the community throughout the month of July. Mark your calendars to swing by and say hello!
First up, we’re proud to partner with Pride Northwest once again and will be participating in the 2023 Portland Pride Parade and Waterfront Festival on July 15-16. Look for us front and center as we have the honor of leading with the Portland Pride banner this year! To learn more about this event click here.
We’re also participating in the PDX Women’s Hockey Tournament from July 21-23 at our very own skating center. Stop by for fun prizes, raffles, and the opportunity to watch some hockey this summer. Learn more about PDX Women’s Hockey here.
Later in July, we’re off to visit our friends at the Junior Olympic Track and Field Championships in Eugene on July 27. Come watch Tommy participate in Mascot Mania and visit our booth for fun prizes and a chance to win free tickets for the 2023-24 season. Learn more about the event here.
